Owala FreeSip vs. FreeSip Sway cup holder fit
The 30 oz FreeSip Sway carries more water than the original 24 oz FreeSip and has a narrower base. If the original is too wide for your cup holder, the Sway is worth a look. Measure the opening first, then check how far the wider part of the bottle needs to drop in.
These are published dimensions. I haven’t tested the bottles in a car.
Measure where the bottle will sit
- Find the narrowest spot. Measure across the cup holder where the bottle will rest. Include grip tabs and any taper below the opening.
- Check the rim against the bottle’s shape. A shallow holder may only touch the Sway’s narrow base. A deeper holder may meet its wider body before the base reaches the bottom.
- Try lifting out a bottle you already have. Check your hand clearance under the dash or next to the shifter. Measure with any silicone boot or sleeve you plan to keep on the bottle.
For example, if you measure 3 inches across, the Sway’s 2.75-inch base has about a quarter inch of room across the opening. The original 24 oz FreeSip’s listed 3.12-inch diameter exceeds that opening by 0.12 inch. The Sway’s upper body still needs room.
Check your cup holder
Enter the inside width. If there’s a shelf or dashboard above it, you can also enter the usable height. The tool compares the Sway’s base and listed height. For the original FreeSip sizes it uses Owala’s listed diameters and heights.
Use the dimensions in the table below to compare by hand.
Results within about 0.05 inch of a limit are flagged so you can measure again. This check uses straight measurements. Cup holder depth, shape and room to lift the bottle out still matter. Measurements stay in your browser.
Owala bottle dimensions
| Bottle | Width used | Height |
|---|---|---|
| Original FreeSip 24 oz | 3.12 in listed diameter | 10.68 in |
| FreeSip Sway 30 oz | 2.75 in base, per Trove Brands | About 10.59 in |
| Original FreeSip 32 oz | 3.43 in listed diameter | 10.66 in |
| Original FreeSip 40 oz | 3.60 in listed diameter | 11.64 in |
The original 32 oz is slightly shorter than the 24 oz according to Owala’s chart, but it’s wider. For a bag pocket, measure the part of the bottle you’ll actually insert. The 30 oz Sway’s 2.75-inch base doesn’t describe its widest point.

Original FreeSip 24 oz. Pick this if 24 oz is enough and your holder has room for its listed diameter. The carry loop doubles as a lid lock when closed.

FreeSip Sway 30 oz. Pick this if you want six more ounces and the tapered base works better in your holder. It has a larger carry handle and a separate lid lock. Check that the listing still shows the 30 oz size after you pick a color.

Both have a straw and a wider opening for cold drinks. If you’re shopping for a coffee cup, compare the SmoothSip Slider and original FreeSip before ordering.
